The Innolight TR-FC13D-N00 is a hot-pluggable QSFP28 optical transceiver designed for 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications. It is compliant with the 100GBASE-ER4 Lite standard, supporting data transmission up to 25km over standard single-mode fiber (G.652) without the need for Forward Error Correction (FEC). This module is ideal for high-speed data center interconnects, telecom client-side links, and high-performance computing networks.

Functional Description

The TR-FC13D-N00 performs optical-electrical conversion for 100G data transmission.

  • Transmit Path: The module accepts four channels of 25.78 Gb/s electrical data. A Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) IC reshapes and re-times each signal. Four cooled EML lasers, driven by laser driver ICs, convert these electrical signals into four precise optical wavelengths. These lanes are then optically multiplexed into a single beam for transmission over a single fiber.

  • Receive Path: An incoming 100G optical signal is de-multiplexed into four separate LAN WDM optical streams. Each stream is received by a high-sensitivity Avalanche Photodiode (APD) in the ROSA, which converts it back into an electrical signal. These signals are then retimed and amplified by the receiver CDR before being output.

Management & Control

The module is fully compliant with the QSFP28 MSA management specification.

  • The 2-wire serial interface (SDA, SCL) allows the host to access a detailed memory map for monitoring parameters like temperature, voltage, TX bias current, and RX optical power.

  • Hardware control pins include:

    • ModSelL: Enables the module to respond to the 2-wire bus.

    • ResetL: Resets the module to its default state.

    • LPMode: Sets a low-power mode for compatibility with power-constrained hosts.

    • IntL: An interrupt pin to alert the host of fault conditions or status changes.

    • ModPrsL: Indicates the physical presence of the module in the host slot.

    • TX_DIS: Can disable the transmitter output via hardware or software.
