In June 2023, Rondo Energy announced plans to expand its annual production of "thermal batteries" to 90GWh

EDP and Rondo Energy have recently signed an agreement to develop 400MW wind and solar power facilities to provide up to 2GWh of clean energy for Rondo Energy's "Heat Battery" energy storage system, which will be used for heating industrial manufacturers and other energy intensive customers of EDP.

Rondo's "thermal battery" energy storage system converts electricity from wind or solar power facilities into continuous heating. Rondo Energy added that the technology also has the ability to continuously provide electricity through cogeneration plants (CHP).

In June 2023, Rondo Energy announced plans to expand its annual production of thermal batteries to 90GWh.

After reaching an agreement, EDP company will develop a wind and solar power park, which will be large-scale renewable energy generation facilities and deployed together with "thermal batteries".

EDP Corporation stated that the project will open up a new market and provide renewable heat and electricity to its commercial and industrial customers. It is said that this agreement will achieve deep decarbonization goals and significantly save energy.

Vera Pinto Pereira, a board member of EDP, stated that Rondo Energy's "thermal battery" energy storage system provides significant business opportunities for decarbonization for its energy intensive customers.

Rondo Energy CEO John O'Donnell added that this partnership will become a game changer aimed at providing clean, low-cost thermal energy to industrial customers.

O'Donnell said, "The collaboration between Rondo Energy and EDP will provide industrial customers with clean thermal energy 24/7, which is more competitive in price compared to natural gas and does not require any modifications to existing factory facilities."

Prior to this, Rondo Energy completed a $60 million financing in August 2023, with investors including Rio Tinto and Microsoft.
